National Pole and Structure is a family owned and operated company in SE Michigan founded in 2004 by John Van Haren of Ypsilanti, Michigan. In the last thirty years John has shared his knowledge and expertise to help get the job done right. After graduating from Eastern Michigan University in 1987 with a four-year degree in Construction Management, John F. Van Haren began his career in the steel infrastructure industry, completing an intensive six-month formal training program before being assigned a multi-state sales and service territory. This early foundation provided hands-on exposure to manufacturing processes, specifications, and the real-world demands of contractors, utilities, and transportation agencies.
Over the next 35+ years, Mr. Van Haren built extensive experience in construction, project coordination, and the sale of steel infrastructure products, working closely with Departments of Transportation, electric utilities, engineers, and contractors. His work has consistently focused on steel poles, structural steel systems, and related infrastructure components, requiring a thorough understanding of specifications, procurement requirements, logistics, and constructability.
In 2004, Mr. Van Haren founded National Pole and Structure, establishing an independent agency dedicated to representing steel manufacturers and providing knowledgeable, responsive support to public and private sector clients. Since forming the company, he has continued to leverage decades of industry experience to connect manufacturers with end users, assist with bid development, and ensure steel solutions are properly matched to project needs. Today, National Pole and Structure reflects Mr. Van Haren’s long-standing commitment to integrity, technical competence, and dependable service within the transportation, utility, and building sectors.
